Message to Region
The need for a multidisciplinary team to manage lung cancer is warrant due to the observed increase in the incidence of the disease and its related mortality. The affiliation with the IASLC would help us to develop our regional guidelines and would support educational activities related to this group. In Saudi Arabia we developed a national lung cancer group and managed with several countries to conduct workshops about lung cancer management. I would encourage all medical specialties from oncologist, pulmonary, thoracic surgery pathology and radiology departments to join this leading society in lung cancer. The membership and attending its regular meetings will enrich us with the recent update and will facilitate our region to develop guidelines for best care for our patients with lung and thoracic malignancies.
We have developed national guidelines with annual update, we established a national lung cancer study group, we conducted multiple national and regional workshops and we will start an annual regional meeting in Lung Cancer. The work in Saudi will be through the Saudi Thoracic Society STS and a separate website for the lung cancer group is under construction.
