Women and Lung Cancer: Screening, Treatment and Beyond

meeting/webinar banner
Overview

This one hour program will feature 3 presentations and provide ample time for questions and discussion. This webinar will discuss the global impact of lung cancer on women and the changing landscape from past, current, and future. Recent analysis from multiple large lung cancer screening trials confirm the objective curative benefit of lung cancer screening and results suggest this benefit is considerately greater in women; the magnitude of these favorable outcomes far exceed the mortality benefit previously reported with breast or colon cancer screening. Low dose CT screening especially integrated with comprehensive tobacco cessation is a remarkable potent tool for improving health of tobacco-exposed individuals but especially impactful with women. Differences in gender will be discussed regarding lung cancer in never smokers, susceptibility to cigarette smoke, lung cancer development, and response to screening and treatment. Future directions in lung cancer research and screening will be reviewed.
