Membership

December 2007

Dear Colleagues,
The year 2007 is coming to a close soon and will become history. For the IASLC it has been a very productive and encouraging year with many new activities, members, and conferences. The 12th World Conference on Lung Cancer in Seoul, Korea was a historical success for IASLC and the planning of the 13th World Conference in San Francisco, US 2009 is rapidly progressing. Also, the plans for the 14th World Conference in Amsterdam are progressing. Recently, applications for the 2013 Conference were submitted and several very good candidate cities have applied. The Board of Directors will, in the next few months visit the selected candidate cities and a decision will be made this summer. Many new fellowships are available for young IASLC scientists in the year 2008 and the IASLC members should be encouraged to apply or recommend younger colleagues for these great opportunities.

A new endavour is the IASLC/ESMO Lung Cancer Conference (see below), which we hope will be an established conference every second year. A similar initiative in the US, the IASLC/ASCO/ASTRO Lung and Head /Neck Conference, is planned for Chicago November 13-15, 2008.

A goal for the year 2008 will be to increase the activities in the different IASLC committees and all the IASLC members are invited to participate in suggestions and ideas for the future IASLC activities. The IASLC Newsletter has proven successful in facilitating communication and
information between the IASLC Office, Board of Directors and the IASLC members. In 2008 the Editor of the Newsletter will propose to the Board of Directors an expansion of the Newsletter to include more general information of interest for the lung cancer community.

The IASLC Executive Director, the Executive Office and the IASLC Board of Directors wish all the IASLC members a Happy Holiday Season and a successful and healthy Year 2008!
