Welcome New IASLC Members for December:
The most important activity has been to conduct multidisciplinary meetings in all the regions of Latin America to explain the importance of obtaining sufficient tissue for histology and molecular testing. It is also important to emphasize prevention because the tobacco smoking habit is very high in this region. We have to increase the distribution of the guidelines in lung cancer.
The IASLC has supported many meeting as partner with local and regional societies, the most important examples are the 6 previous lung cancer conferences (LALCA). JTO is considered one of the best scientific cancer magazine and access is available for all the IASLC members. IASLC has developed an important collaboration in giving a discounted price of 50 dollars for IASLC members from all Latin American countries. All of us must collaborate in recommending IASLC and recruiting new members.
Translation of Message to Region (Spanish):
IASLC a realizado un importante esfuerzo en poner una cuota de 50 dolares para los miembros de la región. Debemos incentivar el registro de nuevos miembros.

WCLC 2015: Patient Advocacy Travel Awards
The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) has opened the application process for lung cancer patient advocates to apply for Advocacy Travel Awards. Awardees receive a travel stipend, free conference registration, up to four nights’ accommodations, and a free IASLC Membership for 2016. “For the World Conference on Lung Cancer in 2015, we hope to engage and receive more applications from other regions of the world, including Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. We know that the cost of travel can be a deterrent, and we hope these travel awards will encourage more survivors and patient advocates from around the world to apply” says Glenda Colburn, chair of the IASLC Patient Advocacy Committee and a Director at Lung Foundation Australia.
