Welcome New IASLC Members for December:
Jong Ho Park, MD, PhD - IASLC Regent for Korea
In Korea, a notable development in lung cancer and thoracic surgery includes the establishment of the following education program: the ATEP (Asia Thoracoscopic Surgery Education Program). As minimally invasive surgery had been ever expanding in Asia, the need for education and training is also ever increasing. To support those needs, the Asia Thoracoscopic Surgery Education Program was established in November 2011. The mission of the ATEP includes: Contribute to the advancement of Thoracoscopic surgery in Asia and to the rest of world; Implement and educate Thoracoscopic surgery procedures to surgeons in Asia; Promote safe surgeries, patient’s safety and best clinical outcome for thoracic surgeons; Promote and encourage sharing of Thoracoscopic surgery techniques among members.
The first International Conference on Asia Thoracoscopic Surgery Education Program(ATEP) was held jointly with the 12th National Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery(MITS) Symposium of China in Beijing, China on November 13-15, 2014. The speakers for the ATEP program represented Korea, Hong Kong, India, China, Taiwan, Turkey, Thailand and Singapore. Topics for the ATEP program included: Future Perspectives of VATS; Special Lecture on Penetrating High Impact Factor Journals; Cutting edge Techniques of VATS; Selected Video Presentations; and Evidence and Current Status of VATS – including the status of VATS in India, China, Turkey and Taiwan. Committees of ATEP also reported during the meeting. Prior to the 1st International Conference, many workshops of ATEP have been held since 2012 and 2013, with attendees from up to 10 countries, including Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, in Shanghai, China. More information about ATEP may be found at www.myatep.org. For inquiries, please email ATEP President Professor Jheon.

WCLC 2015: Patient Advocacy Travel Awards
The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) has opened the application process for lung cancer patient advocates to apply for Advocacy Travel Awards. Awardees receive a travel stipend, free conference registration, up to four nights’ accommodations, and a free IASLC Membership for 2016. “For the World Conference on Lung Cancer in 2015, we hope to engage and receive more applications from other regions of the world, including Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. We know that the cost of travel can be a deterrent, and we hope these travel awards will encourage more survivors and patient advocates from around the world to apply” says Glenda Colburn, chair of the IASLC Patient Advocacy Committee and a Director at Lung Foundation Australia.
