IASLC President-Elect Honored with 2016 Addario Lectureship Award
Dr. Scagliotti Honored for his Leadership and Expertise in Lung Cancer and Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma

DENVER – After nearly 30 years of IASLC membership and a career in groundbreaking research, the IASLC proudly recognizes Dr. Giorgio V. Scagliotti, President-Elect of IASLC, Professor and Chair of Medical Oncology at the University of Turin and San Luigi Hospital in Italy, who recently received the 2016 Addario Lectureship Award.

Giorgio Scagliotti Addario AwardDr. Scagliotti received the 2016 Addario Lectureship Award at the 17th Annual International Lung Cancer Congress (ILCC) in Huntington Beach, CA on August 5, 2016 for his leadership, research, and long-term dedication to the treatment of lung cancer, including malignant pleural mesothelioma.

“Throughout my career in lung cancer, I have seen tremendous progress in both science and collaboration,” Dr. Scagliotti said. “Being recognized by a patient advocacy organization is truly rewarding as it highlights the important collaboration between scientists, patients, and their advocates – a partnership that leads to the best outcomes for lung cancer patients.”

While based in Italy, Dr. Scagliotti’s work spans the globe through his participation in international collaboration, his scientific talks, and his participation in international societies. 

“Dr. Scagliotti is a shining example of what the IASLC does best: international scientific collaboration. By sharing best practices globally, and across multidisciplinary teams, Dr. Scagliotti and the IASLC leverage advancements in the field of lung cancer, improving lung cancer survival rates and care for lung cancer patients,” said Fred R. Hirsch, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine and Pathology at the University of Colorado Cancer Center and School of Medicine, and CEO of the IASLC.

Dr. Scagliotti earned his medical degree and completed postgraduate training in respiratory medicine, internal medicine, and medical oncology at the University of Torino. He is a member of several scientific societies, including the IASLC, the Italian Society of Respiratory Medicine, The Italian Association of Medical Oncology, the European Respiratory Society, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Scagliotti was an IASLC Board member from 2003-2007. 

"Dr. Scagliotti's work to bring together the international world of lung cancer research is inspiring to us all and we are so pleased to recognize and elevate his work through the Addario Lectureship Award," said Bonnie J. Addario, 10-year lung cancer survivor and founder of the Addario Lung Cancer Foundation.
