IASLC Readies Release of IASLC Thoracic Oncology - 2nd Edition
New Edition of Signature Textbook Aims to Keep Professionals Abreast of Latest Lung Cancer Developments

DENVER – The field of lung cancer is changing rapidly, with new discoveries, novel trials and changes in the standard of care happening at an extraordinary rate. In order to keep lung cancer physicians, physician assistants and nurses abreast of the complex, ever-evolving field of thoracic oncology, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) has produced a second edition of its signature textbook, IASLC Thoracic Oncology – 2nd Edition, in the hopes of consolidating the most reliable, up-to-date information on the subject in one comprehensive source.

The new edition of IASLC Thoracic Oncology updates large sections of the first edition of the textbook, which was released in 2014. In the interim, the science surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies has exploded, with significant changes occurring in genomic phenotyping, staging, histologic classification and immunotherapeutic treatment strategies. Ultimately, new or updated material represents over 50% of the second edition of the textbook, an appropriate percentage considering the wealth of new data that has recently come to light.

“The second edition of our textbook represents the IASLC’s commitment to providing medical professionals of all disciplines with the educational tools they need to provide the highest standard of care to lung patients throughout the world,” said Fred R. Hirsch, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine and Pathology at the University of Colorado Cancer Center and School of Medicine, and CEO of the IASLC. “Through the hard work of editors Dr. Harvey Pass, Dr. David Ball and Dr. Giorgio Scagliotti, clinicians will now have practical, relevant coverage of best practices in the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and advocacy of lung cancer and other thoracic diseases. We thank them and the many other global experts who contributed to this important project for their hard work.”

IASLC Thoracic Oncology – 2nd Edition will be available for pre-order at the ASCO Annual Meeting on June 2-6, 2017, in Chicago. It is also available for pre-order on Amazon and on the Elsevier Health digital bookstore. The textbook is available for purchase in both physical and digital form. Members of the IASLC are also eligible to receive a discount on the book’s cover price.
