Definition of Journal-Based CME

A journal-based CME activity includes the reading of an article (or adapted formats for special needs), a provider stipulated/learner directed phase (that may include reflection, discussion, or debate about the material contained in the article(s) and a requirement for the completion by the learner of a pre-determined set of questions or tasks relating to the content of the material as part of the learning process.

The JTO Journals offer readers opportunities to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Articles designated for CME credit are designed to be the next step in the process of translating clinically relevant, evidence-based recommendations into clinical practice. This will be accomplished through a series of questions specifically designed by the author(s) to test that readers have the tools needed to translate recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic clinical care into clinical practice. Pre and Post-test questions will assess if practitioners have understood the most important recommendations available for the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary diseases, critical illness, and sleep disorders, and are able to implement them into clinical practice. Each Journal CME activity consists of the full-text article, a pre and post-test quiz, and a course evaluation. Each CME activity should take approximately 1 hour to complete. This is an online-only activity.

IASLC designates this Internet Journal CME activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Target Audience: This CME live activity is designed to meet the educational needs of healthcare professionals who diagnose and treat patients with lung cancer, including medical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and advanced practice nurses and physicians' assistants.

Learning Objective: By participating in this Journal CME activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Formulate a differential diagnosis for lung cancer.
  • Increase their knowledge of important advances in the field of Thoracic oncology.
  • Apply gained knowledge to the care and treatment of patients.
