QOPI® (Quality Oncology Practice Initiative) is an ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) quality program designed for out-patient medical oncology services in order to foster a culture of self-evaluation and continuous improvement.
Together with the Foundation for Excellence and Quality in Oncology (ECO), a nonprofit foundation in Spain, the IASLC and ASCO have collaborated to assess the quality of healthcare in Spain. Similar efforts are being made by the IASLC in Brazil. The main goals of this project in both regions are to:
- measure a baseline and track improvements over time;
- approach government officials with real-world, evidence-based results to influence the healthcare system;
- develop educational material and platforms to train healthcare provider teams in Brazil and Spain;
- and publish real-world data on the quality of their healthcare systems in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology (JTO).
Participating in this pilot project will allow sites in Brazil and Spain to gain access to over 130 quality measures, obtain individualized guidance and education, and join in two abstraction periods each year.
