Global Multidisciplinary Practice Standards Committee (GMPSC)

The Global Multidisciplinary Practice Standards Committee (GMPSC) is dedicated to the development and implementation of global standards for tobacco control, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care management of thoracic malignancies. Comprised of a diverse group of internationally renowned experts in the field of thoracic oncology, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, and ancillary care experts and patient advocates. The GMPSC aims to establish comprehensive, multidisciplinary, evidence-based global standard(s) by reviewing literature and existing guidelines from around the world. By providing global standards, countries, and health systems will have a clear path forward to ensure optimal quality outcomes can be achieved.
Global Multidisciplinary Practice Standards Committee (GMPSC)

Committee Responsibilities:

  1. Literature Review: The GMPSC, supported by IASLC staff, diligently reviews the latest scientific literature, clinical trials, and treatment guidelines related to thoracic malignancies from various reputable sources worldwide. This comprehensive analysis allows the committee to stay up to date with the most current advancements, emerging therapies, and best practices in the field.
  2. Evidence-Based Recommendations: Based on the extensive literature review, the GMPSC develops evidence-based recommendations for tobacco control, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care management of thoracic malignancies. These recommendations consider the latest research findings, clinical data, and technological advancements to ensure the highest level of care for patients.
  3. Collaboration: The committee collaborates with international organizations, medical societies, patients, and other stakeholders involved in thoracic oncology to gather diverse perspectives and expertise. By fostering collaborations, the GMPSC aims to create a comprehensive global consensus on practice standards for thoracic malignancies.
  4. Standard Development: The GMPSC, with the IASLC staff, consolidates the collected evidence and expert opinions to draft comprehensive standards encompassing the entire spectrum of thoracic malignancies. These standards cover topics such as tobacco control, screening, diagnostic approaches, treatment modalities (including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapies, and immunotherapies), supportive care, and follow-up strategies.
  5. Dissemination and Implementation: Once the standards are developed, the GMPSC ensures their widespread dissemination among healthcare professionals, medical institutions, and relevant stakeholders. The committee actively encourages the adoption and implementation of these standards to promote standardized care for thoracic malignancies globally.
  6. Continuous Evaluation and Updating: Recognizing the dynamic nature of medical research and technological advancements, the GMPSC continuously evaluates the standards and updates them as necessary. This ensures that the recommendations remain current, reflecting the latest evidence and evolving standards of care.
  7. Education and Advocacy: The GMPSC is committed to raising awareness and educating healthcare professionals, patients, and the public about thoracic malignancies. The committee advocates for equitable access to quality care and improved outcomes for patients with thoracic malignancies through public campaigns, scientific conferences, and educational initiatives.
Mission

The Global Multidisciplinary Practice Standards Committee (GMPSC) plays a pivotal role in setting global standards for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of thoracic malignancies, improving patient care, fostering international collaborations, and advancing the field of thoracic oncology.
