Fred R. Hirsch, MD, PhD

Chief Executive Officer

Fred R. Hirsch, MD, PhD, is a professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, U.S.A. His research interests include translational research, targeted therapies and early detection of lung cancer.

Dr. Hirsch holds a degree from the Copenhagen Business School, as well as a medical degree and doctorate from the University of Copenhagen. His specialty is medical oncology.  He became the CEO of IASLC in November 2013.

Pia Hirsch

Senior Director of Education, Corporate Relations and Governance

Pia Hirsch joined the IASLC in 2003 and is responsible for corporate relations, including fundraising and arrangements of IASLC meetings, workshops and educational activities. She attended medical school at the University of Copenhagen and has a B.A. in Public Health Administration from Copenhagen Business School. She speaks Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, German, French and Hebrew. She is the IASLC staff liaison for the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Educational Committee and Awards Committee.

Kristin M. Richeimer

Director of Membership

Kristin Richeimer is responsible for increasing IASLC's membership and expanding the membership base to include new specialties and treatment providers from around the world. She joined IASLC in 2010 after nearly nine years at USA Rugby. She has a bachelor's degree in German Language and Literature from the University of Pennsylvania, and speaks English, German and French. She is the IASLC staff liaison for the following committees: Ethics, Membership, Patient Advocates, Nurses & Allied Professionals and Council of Regents. Murry Wynes, PhD

Director of Scientific Affairs Department

Murry supports the mission of the IASLC through project management, research and technical assistance related to the current science, advances and trends in thoracic malignancies, and helping define deliverables. He will additionally assist IASLC management develop means to improve content and distribution of its educational products and services to achieve the organization’s strategic goals. Murry brings to the IASLC a strong history in project and fiscal management, clinical, translational and basic research, as well as scientific writing and presentation.

John Skadow

Director of Finance

John Skadow joined the IASLC in 2015 and is responsible for financial planning and the daily financial management of the IASLC and the IASLC Foundation. He is also responsible for contracts management, tax and audit processes, and financial risk management. John graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S in Accountancy and from the University of Colorado at Denver with an M.S. in Finance.  He is also a licensed CPA in the state of Colorado.

Colleen Miller

Director of Communications

Colleen joined IASLC in 2016 and is responsible for all internal and external communication initiatives, media relations, publications and special events. With more than 20 years of marketing communications experience in corporate, agency, nonprofit, sports and state and local government, Colleen most recently headed up the Denver Council of Governments’ Way to Go program and oversaw the region’s highly successful Bike to Work Day, the second largest in the U.S. Prior to that she spent seven years at a global technology company. An accomplished event planner, Colleen also has extensive experience in sponsorship sales and management. She earned a B.S. degree in Journalism from the University of Colorado.

Karen Muth

Executive Assistant to the CEO

Karen Muth joined the IASCL in June 2016 as Executive Assistant to the CEO. Karen’s career supporting C-level executives includes serving nearly six years as the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program Coordinator and as Administrative Assistant to the Division Chief in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Prior to her arrival at IASLC, Karen served as chief of staff to a former U.S. Ambassador. Her background includes philanthropy, politics, postgraduate surgical education, publishing and mountain travel & tourism sectors. She holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Dallas Baptist University, TX. Karen is a founding parent of Colorado’s Cherry Creek Academy, an award-winning K-8 public charter school.

Mary Todd

Managing Editor, JTO

Mary Todd is the Managing Editor of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology with more than 20 years experience in journal management. She has managed Journal of Thoracic Oncology since its inception. Jacinta Wiens, PhD

Scientific Affairs Projects Manager

Jacinta Wiens, Ph.D., is part of the IASLC Scientific Affairs Department focusing on scientific matters, scientific project management, scientific writing, and being a subject matter expert on thoracic malignancies. Dr. Wiens has a background in translational and basic science research, medical device design, molecular diagnostics, and regulatory compliance. She holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, a M.S. in microbiology from the University of Colorado Denver, and a B.S.

Becky Bunn

Public Relations Manager

Becky Bunn, M.Sc., works with the Director of Communications to create and implement an international communications strategy, write and edit press releases, plan and facilitate global media events, and manage communications and press coverage at annual international conferences. Becky has a diverse background in politics, public relations, and international business. She teaches Global Affairs at the University of Denver and previous advised Fortune 500 clients.

Becky also has experience in state and federal government. Becky has an M.Sc. in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics, a B.A. in Political Science from Colorado College, and a Certificate of International Trade from Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Adam Mohrbacher

Content Specialist

Adam Mohrbacher is IASLC’s Content Specialist, responsible for helping manage the organization’s website, email communications and social media.  Before coming to IASLC, Adam worked for University of Denver’s Undergraduate Admission office and interned for Aurora Sister Cities International. He holds a B.A. in English from East-West University in Chicago, IL, and a M.S. in Strategic Communication from University of Denver. Adam can be reached via email at adam.mohrbacher@iaslc.org.

Carlos Ferreira

Continuing Medical Education Compliance Specialist

Carlos Ferreira has more than 8 years of experience in continuing medical education, having developed, managed, and supervised hundreds of initiatives in numerous therapeutic categories. He currently serves as Continuing Medical Education Compliance Specialist at IASLC. He is a graduate of University of Lisbon, Portugal with a Master’s degree in French Literature, minor in Business Administration. Kristin Schultz

Advocacy Specialist

Kristin Schultz supports IASLC's mission by being a point of contact for new and existing members. She also helps with IASLC programs and activities designed to increase membership around the world.  With a strong background in customer service and start-ups, she assists with streamlining processes related to membership functionality. She graduated with a B.S. in Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism and a minor in Business from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Kristin can be reached at kristin.schultz@iaslc.org.

Michelle Martinez

Data and Technical Analyst

Michelle Martinez is responsible for data and technical analysis, her professional background has been focused on Information Technology Data Analysis over the past 20 years within the financial industry. Michelle joins IASLC as a member to uphold our data integrity and support our technical evolution as we continue to expand worldwide. She assists IASLC marketing and planning by analyzing data patterns and trends, and provides statistical information to assist IASLC improve our business practices.

Michelle Gruver

Fellowship Coordinator

Michelle Gruver is IASLC’s Fellowship Coordinator. She has been in the healthcare industry for almost 20 years, and previously was the Fellowship Coordinator for the Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital Colorado.  Michelle is looking forward to expanding IASLC’s Fellowship Program, and convincing talented researchers to join us in the fight against lung cancer. Kelsey Wood

Membership Coordinator

Kelsey joined IASLC as a Membership Coordinator in 2017 and provides support to our new and existing members around the world. A two-time AmeriCorps Alum, she has a diverse background supporting a wide variety of nonprofits and was previously working in the endurance sports industry. Jenna Gentry

Project Coordinator

Jenna Gentry serves as IASLC’s Project Coordinator, responsible for the multimedia production of online learning content. Prior to joining IASLC, Jenna has worked in educational instruction, multimedia development and course design. She holds a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Northern Colorado, and a M.A. in Education, Leadership, and Emerging Technologies from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. Debra Clements

Conference Coordinator

Debbie Clements joined IASLC in February 2017 as the Conference Coordinator to support IASLC’s educational activities as the organization continues to expand worldwide. She has been in the healthcare industry for nearly 20 years. Debbie has been instrumental in coordinating the cardiothoracic surgery and urgent care conferences at the University of Colorado School of Medicine as well as at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Her professional background includes serving eight years as the Administrative Assistant to the Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Division and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Section, and seven years as the Business Administrative Coordinator for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Section at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Paul Silvey

Education Programs Coordinator

Paul Silvey is the IASLC's Education Programs Coordinator, responsible for coordinating and shipping educational materials to the numerous conferences that the IASLC annually organizes throughout the world. 

Vengie Lau

Asia Support

Vengie Lau works out of the IASLC Asia Office. She provides support to the IASLC by seeking educational opportunities and corporate sponsorship in the region. Lau has a Masters in Biochemistry from the Chinese University in Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto.  

Audrey Szychulski

Development Consultant

Audrey J. Szychulski joined IASLC in 2016 and is responsible for the fundraising efforts of the IASLC Foundation. In addition to working as a professional fundraiser for over a decade, Audrey has also been a guest lecturer on Fundraising and Advocacy for Penn State University, Mercyhurst University, and the Eastman Conservatory in addition to teaching graduate level Strategic Planning and Fundraising for Drexel University.
