DENVER – The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) welcomes Dave Mesko as its new Managing Director. Mr. Mesko comes to the IASLC with a strong background in running organizations and in creating new initiatives. Mr. Mesko will have primary responsibility for the overall operation of the organization. He reports to the CEO and has eight direct reports.

“Mr. Mesko has exactly the background and the leadership capabilities we need to move the IASLC to the next level,” said Fred R. Hirsch, MD, PhD, CEO of the IASLC. “We have grown significantly as an organization, both in people and in activities, and Mr. Mesko will help us manage that growth and plan strategically for the future.”

Over the past five years, the IASLC has grown from a staff of five to a staff of 23, and an average of three to five scientific meetings per year to 10 meetings in 2018.

In his most recent position prior to joining the IASLC, Mr. Mesko was Chief Operating Officer at the Council on Foundations. He was promoted within two years to add COO responsibilities (also encompassing the CFO role).

Mr. Mesko also served as CFO at Georgetown University, School of Nursing and Health Studies. While there he partnered with the executive team to evaluate business models, academic offerings and pricing. At Georgetown, Mr. Mesko led the paradigm shift required to move a traditional academic institution to the online education space.

In all of his previous positions, Mr. Mesko has exceeded financial targets, led innovative initiatives and developed effective processes.  He has an MBA from the American University and a B.A. in Business Administration from Western Carolina University.
