Multidisciplinary Clinical Science Committee 2025
Mission

The Clinical Science Committee plays a pivotal role in advancing the field through its research initiatives, education, and advocacy efforts. By fostering collaboration and innovation, the committee aims to improve patient outcomes, enhance the quality of care, and contribute to the eradication of thoracic malignancies worldwide.

Committee projects

Expert Panel & Consensus Statement: Defining Multidisciplinary Care for Thoracic Cancers

This project aims to provide an expert consensus definition of multidisciplinary care by evaluating differences in the composition of multidisciplinary teams, the time taken for evaluation by a multidisciplinary team, and the barriers to providing multidisciplinary care across various institutions, regions, or settings. The first phase of the project will involve a guidelines and literature review addressing multidisciplinary care.

Decision-Making Analysis & Manuscript: Understanding treatment Decisions & Discrepancies in Stage III NSCLC Care for Borderline Resectable Disease

One of the first initiatives of the Multidisciplinary Clinical Science Committee is to utilize objective consensus methodology among a group of multidisciplinary experts to identify overlaps or discrepancies in decision-making criteria, treatment options, and treatment decisions for Stage III NSCLC. This approach aims to pinpoint meaningful divergences in the decision-making process, which will be reported in a manuscript and will inform areas of focus for future projects.

Synoptic Procedural Reporting for Quality Assessment in Systematic Staging EBUS in NSCLC

Systematic staging is recommended for patients with clinical stage I-III NSCLC. This project seeks to establish standards for and implement synoptic reporting for systematic lymph node staging using endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). The implementation of these standards will improve the quality of systematic lymph node staging where recommended, aiming to reduce variance in care and enhance the quality of EBUS staging.

2024 Radiation Oncology Webinar

The purpose of the webinar is to provide an annual update on new developments in Radiation Oncology within the increasingly multidisciplinary care for all stages and types of lung cancers. Highlights will include impactful studies from the recent ELCC and ESTRO scientific meetings, as well as new practice-changing radiation publications. As radiation continues to play a crucial role in the treatment of all stages and subtypes of lung cancer, this webinar aims to address some of the gaps for both radiation and non-radiation oncology healthcare professionals.
