IASLC Statement on Coronavirus Disease 2019 and WCLC 2020

Press Release
Feb 25, 2020

In light of the growing concern due to the recent outbreak of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19*), the IASLC continues to monitor the situation on a daily basis. Our primary focus is to ensure the health and welfare of our attendees and faculty.

We recognize that many of our global and multidisciplinary members and meeting attendees are health care workers who are on the frontline of studying, diagnosing and treating this disease. We want to express our gratitude and admiration to them and to all health care professionals working in incredibly difficult circumstances to contain the outbreak and prevent further loss of life.

At this time, the IASLC 2020 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC 2020), August 9-12, will continue as planned in Singapore.

Preparedness steps have been taken by Singapore government to minimize any possible outbreak. Singapore businesses, citizens and residents are working in line with government protocols to curtail any possible infection or transmission. Onsite during the WCLC 2020, the IASLC will take all relevant precautions to ensure heightened levels of cleanliness and optimize high a safe and healthy environment for all faculty and attendees.

When planning your travel to attend any IASLC meetings, we suggest you check with your preferred airline and travel provider to see if travel insurance may be applicable. In addition, several airlines have waived change fees for flights booked to help manage this rapidly evolving situation.

In addition, the IASLC is exploring all potential contingencies related to sharing content for the meeting, including remote presentation options for those unable to attend due to travel restrictions, advisories, or personal and public health concerns.

We are hopeful that in the coming weeks, with the precautionary measures taken by Global Health Authorities, the Singapore Government, Singapore businesses and the wider Singapore population, the situation will improve.

If you are interested in additional information about COVID-19, we recommend that you review the public notice for travelers released by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Singapore Ministry of Health updates and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendations in preparation for your travel.

IASLC and its members have created additional resources for reference in relation to this evolving heath situation.

The IASLC will continue to monitor updates released by appropriate authorities prior to the meeting and update you as necessary. We also encourage you to also monitor your national governments health and travel policies for specific, localized information. We look forward to seeing you in Singapore for the IASLC 2020 World Conference on Lung Cancer.

This statement will be amended as new updates become available.
