Frequently Asked Questions

Eligibility

Who is eligible for the LIC/LMIC complimentary IASLC membership?

Professionals who live and work in a country designated as a Low-Income Country (LIC) or Lower-Middle-Income Country (LMIC) by the World Bank are eligible for no-cost Full Membership.

How do I know if my country qualifies?

The IASLC uses the World Bank Country and Lending Group classifications to determine eligibility. You can verify your country's classification at datahelpdesk.worldbank.org. If your country is listed as Low-Income or Lower-Middle-Income, you qualify.

Do I need to provide proof of where I live or work?

When completing your membership application or renewal, you will be asked to confirm your country of residence and/or primary practice. IASLC may request documentation to verify eligibility in some cases. Providing accurate information ensures you receive the correct membership category.

Membership Benefits

What type of membership will I receive?

Eligible individuals will receive Full Membership — the same tier available to paying members — at no cost. There is no reduced or limited category; you will receive the same benefits as any member in the Full membership tier.

What benefits are included with the Full Membership?

As a Full Member, you will have access to all standard IASLC member benefits, including:

  • Subscriptions to IASLC's journals, including the Journal of Thoracic Oncology (JTO) and JTO Clinical and Research Reports
  • Access to IASLC educational resources, webinars, and e-learning content
  • Member pricing on registration for the World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) and other IASLC events
  • Access to the IASLC Member Portal and Thoracic Circle, IASLC's online member community
  • Networking opportunities with a global community of thoracic oncology professionals
  • Eligibility to apply for IASLC grants, awards, and travel stipends
  • Access to member-exclusive resources, guidelines, and staging materials

Can I vote in the IASLC's elections?

Yes. Those who reside in a Lower or Lower Middle-Income country, as a complementary member, have full voting rights.

Can I serve on IASLC committees?

Yes. Complimentary Full Members are eligible to serve on IASLC committees and working groups. The IASLC welcomes diverse global representation across all its committees and strongly encourages members from LIC and LMIC countries to apply for committee service.

How to Enroll or Renew

How do I sign up for a complimentary membership?

If you are a new member, please create an account at my.iaslc.org and select Full Member as your membership type during the application process. Your eligibility will be assessed based on the country information you provide. If you have questions about the application process, please contact the IASLC Membership team at membership@iaslc.org

I am an existing member. How do I renew my complimentary membership?

Please follow these steps to renew your membership through the Member Portal:

  1. Navigate to the Member Portal and log in to your profile. If you have forgotten your credentials, you can reset them from the login page.
  2. Once logged in, click the Membership tab on the left-hand side of the screen, then click the Renew button next to the membership you'd like to renew.
  3. Review and update your personal, professional, and payment information as needed. You may also enroll in auto-renewal to keep your membership active automatically each year.
  4. Select Full Member as your membership type.

What if I have trouble logging into the Member Portal?

Use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page to reset your credentials. If you continue to have difficulty accessing your account, please contact us at membership@iaslc.org, and our team will be happy to assist you.

Ongoing Eligibility & Renewals

How long does a complimentary membership last?

Complimentary membership is valid for one year and must be renewed annually, consistent with IASLC's standard membership cycle. As long as your country continues to qualify under the World Bank's LIC or LMIC classifications and you remain active in a relevant field, you are welcome to renew each year.

What happens if my country's income classification changes?

IASLC reviews its complimentary membership eligibility criteria each year in alignment with World Bank classification updates. If your country's status changes, your membership price will be reflected accordingly. If your membership status changes from complimentary to paid and this presents a concern, please contact membership@iaslc.org at your time of renewal.

Will I receive renewal reminders?

Yes.  The IASLC will send renewal reminder communications to your email address on file as your membership expiration date approaches. Please ensure your contact information is current in the Member Portal to avoid missing these notices.
