This Privacy Policy applies to all personal data collected through your communications with IASLC, on iaslc.org (the “Site”) and through our other websites and services that link to this Privacy Policy, and to any other personal data about you that we may collect, such as through sales or events (collectively, through our “Services”).
By accessing our Services or providing personal data to IASLC, you accept and agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Please note that, for individuals located in the European Economic Area (“EEA”), section 13 provides additional information regarding how IASLC processes your personal data and supplements sections 1 through 12. In the event of any inconsistency between the statements made in sections 1 through 12 and section 13, the terms in section 13 will take precedent.
2. Children under the age of 13
Our Services are not intended for children under 13 years of age. No one under age 13 may provide any information through our Services. IASLC does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are under 13, do not use or provide any information on the Site or on or through any of its features, or register on the Site, make any purchases through the Site, use any of the interactive or public comment features of the Site, if any, or provide any information about yourself, including your name, address, telephone number, email address, or any screen name or user name you may use. If IASLC learns it has collected or received personal data from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, IASLC will delete that information. If you believe IASLC might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact IASLC at info@iaslc.org.

These individuals are subject to confidentiality obligations and are required to only process personal data on IASLC’s instructions.
10. Retention
We will only retain your personal data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting or reporting requirements. We may retain your personal data for a longer period in the event of a complaint, if we reasonably believe there is a prospect of litigation in respect to our relationship with you, or as otherwise permitted by law.
To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of personal data, the purposes for which we process personal data and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal, regulatory, tax, accounting or other requirements.
In some circumstances we will anonymize personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with a specific person) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

B. More information about how IASLC discloses your personal data
We may share your personal data with the parties set out below for the purposes set out in the table above:
- Our subsidiaries and affiliates, some of which may be in the United States;
- Service providers, contractors, and other similar third parties, some of which may be in the United States, that we use to support IASLC;
- Other non-profit lung cancer advocacy or research organizations and individuals IASLC partners with, some of which may be in the United States;
- Sponsors, exhibitors, attendees, and other third parties when you register for events, conferences, presentations, courses, programs, meetings and other IASLC activities, including through registration or attendee lists distributed at such events, some of whom may be located in the United States; and
- A buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of IASLC’s assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which personal data held by IASLC about users is among the assets transferred. IASLC may also seek to acquire other organizations or merge with them.
We require all subsidiaries, affiliates, and third parties to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with the law. We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes and only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions.
It may be necessary for us – by law, legal process, litigation, and/or requests from public and governmental authorities within or outside the data subject’s country of residence – to disclose personal data. We may also disclose personal data if we determine that, for purposes of national security, law enforcement, or other issues of public importance, disclosure is necessary or appropriate.
We may also disclose personal data if we determine in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect our rights and pursue available remedies, enforce our internal regulations, investigate fraud, or protect our operations or users.
C. International transfers
Our systems and servers are managed in the United States. Please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed by us in our facilities and by those third parties with whom we may share your personal data, in the United States and other countries.
If you are a resident of the EEA, then these countries may not necessarily have data protection laws or other similar laws as comprehensive as those in your country. We will however take all necessary measures to protect your personal data in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.
Please contact us if you want further information on the specific mechanism used by us when transferring your personal data out of the EEA.
D. Your rights under GDPR
Under certain circumstances, you may have certain rights under EU data protection laws in relation to your personal data, including to:
- Request access to your personal data. This enables you to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you and to check that we are lawfully processing it.
- Request correction of the personal data that we hold about you. This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate data we hold about you corrected, though we may need to verify the accuracy of the new data you provide to us.
- Request erasure of your personal data. This enables you to ask us to delete or remove personal data. Note, however, that we may not always be able to comply with your request for erasure for specific legal reasons which will be notified to you, if applicable, at the time of your request.
- Object to processing of your personal data where we are relying on a legitimate interest (or those of a third party) and there is something about your particular situation which makes you want to object to processing on this ground as you feel it impacts your fundamental rights and freedoms. You also have the right to object where we are processing your personal data for direct marketing purposes. In some cases, we may demonstrate that we have compelling legitimate grounds to process your information which override your rights and freedoms.
- Request restriction of processing of your personal data. This enables you to ask us to suspend the processing of your personal data in the following scenarios: (i) if you want us to establish the data’s accuracy; (ii) where our use of the data is unlawful but you do not want us to erase it; (iii) where you need us to hold the data even if we no longer require it as you need it to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; or (iv) you have objected to our use of your data but we need to verify whether we have overriding legitimate grounds to use it.
- Request the transfer of your personal data to you or to a third party. We will provide you, or a third party you have chosen, your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. Note that this right only applies to automated information which you initially provided consent for us to use or where we used the information to perform a contract with you.
- Withdraw consent at any time where we are relying on consent to process your personal data. However, this will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdraw your consent. If you withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide certain products or services to you.
You will not have to pay a fee to exercise any of these rights. However, we may charge a reasonable fee, or refuse to comply with your request, if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive, or excessive.
We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity in order to fulfill your request.
We try to respond to all legitimate requests within one month; however, it may take us longer than a month if your request is particularly complex or you have made a number of requests. In this case, we will notify you and keep you updated.
We will respond to requests as required under the GDPR. Please note that some requests may be subject to exceptions, including if we believe that fulfilling your request would violate any law or legal requirement to which IASLC is subject.
E. Complaints
IASLC hopes that it can resolve any query or concern you raise about IASLC’s use of your information. The GDPR also gives you the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EEA state where you normally live or where any alleged infringement of data protection laws occurred.
