Overview
This Conference was established with the aim of providing an
integrated and multidisciplinary perspective on lung cancer,
addressing the full continuum of the disease: from primary and
secondary prevention and early detection to the management of
locally advanced and metastatic stages.
Now in its 10th edition, the initiative has progressively established
itself as a national reference meeting for the thoracic oncology
community, fostering structured dialogue among medical
oncologists, thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists,
pulmonologists, pathologists, radiologists, molecular biologists,
and all professionals involved in the patient care pathway.
The Conference is promoted by the Thoracic Medical Oncology
Unit of the IRCCS Istituto Tumori “Giovanni Paolo II” in Bari, a
referral center that combines substantial multidisciplinary clinical
activity with active participation in international clinical trials and
the development of translational research programs.
Over the years, the event has consistently upheld a strong
commitment to scientific rigor and academic independence,
prioritizing critical appraisal of the most recent international
evidence and encouraging open discussion of real-world clinical
cases, decision-making processes, and organizational models.
Within this context, Bari and the Apulia region are progressively
assuming a more visible role within the national thoracic oncology
landscape, facilitating the integration of clinical expertise,
therapeutic innovation, and collaborative scientific initiatives.
The current edition will place particular emphasis on prevention
strategies; the evolving concept of resectability; multimodal
integration in Stage III disease; the role of molecular biomarkers in
therapeutic decision-making; the management of immune-related
toxicities; and organizational models designed to ensure
timely and equitable access to care.
The Conference is also part of a broader commitment to
advancing research and biomarker-driven scientific culture, in
synergy with the activities of the ATLAS Foundation, which
promotes initiatives focused on treatment personalization and the
development of biomarker-based strategies in lung cancer.
As in previous editions, IASLC endorsement will be formally
requested, reflecting continued alignment with international
scientific standards and the Conference’s ongoing commitment
to multidisciplinary excellence in lung cancer management.
