About the IASLC DEI Initiative

As the IASLC continues to grow, we are purposefully working towards being an equitable organization that supports and welcomes members from all backgrounds. Our focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within IASLC directly supports our vision to create and support a diverse community where everyone feels like they belong.

In 2021, the IASLC Board of Directors formalized the Association’s commitment to DEI by changing the bylaws to include the following as an organizational priority: To define new and meaningful strategies to remove barriers, including those resulting from systemic disparities that impact (i) access to research and funding for those engaged in any research on lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies and (ii) access to care for and information about lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies for patients and their families.

Why Participate in the IASLC 2024 DEI Initiative?

As the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) continues to evolve, our commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within our organization remains steadfast. With a global membership spanning diverse scientific disciplines, personal identities, regions, and cultures, the IASLC is dedicated to cultivating an environment where every member feels valued and included.

  • Shape the Future of IASLC: By completing the DEI survey, members have a direct opportunity to influence the direction of the organization. Your input will guide the development of strategies to remove barriers and promote equity within IASLC, ensuring that it becomes a more inclusive and supportive community for all members.
  • Contribute to Global DEI Efforts: Your participation in the survey contributes to the broader goal of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion on a global scale. As part of a professional association with a commitment to DEI, your insights will help advance efforts to create a more diverse and welcoming environment within the field of thoracic cancers.
  • Ensure Representation: The survey allows members to ensure that their voices are heard and their perspectives are represented within IASLC. By sharing your experiences and perspectives, you help ensure that the organization's initiatives and priorities are reflective of the diverse backgrounds and needs of its membership.
  • Support Meaningful Change: The DEI survey is an opportunity to actively participate in the process of driving meaningful change within IASLC. Your feedback will inform the development of actionable strategies and initiatives aimed at addressing systemic disparities and improving access to research, funding, and care for individuals affected by thoracic cancers.
  • Engage with Equity Assessment: By completing the survey, members are contributing to the Equity Assessment conducted in partnership with The Equity Project (TEP). Your insights will help identify challenges and opportunities for improvement within IASLC's systems, processes, and practices, ultimately leading to a more equitable and inclusive organization.
